Childcare Needs Analysis
City of Sydney
Cred undertook to research and develop recommendations to underpin the City’s strategic approach to child care issues and provision including how to spend $55million on new child care centres in the City of Sydney. An assessment of childcare demand and supply in the City, and the factors influencing childcare provision trends, was critical to enable effective social infrastructure planning. The child care needs study will be utilised as the basis for effective planning for facilities provision and associated financial, asset management and social services planning. It will inform the update of the City’s Community Facilities Strategy, including consideration of potential new and innovative partnership approaches to child care provision. It will also assist the City in negotiating for increased provision by private and not-for-profit sector operators.
The needs analysis included:
- Representative telephone survey of 150 residents;
- Survey to over 150 child care operators;
- Online survey with child care users; and
- Workshops with Council staff and key community stakeholders.
