City of Sydney Youth and Skate Facilities Strategy

City of Sydney

Cred worked closely with City staff to develop the City’s first Youth and Skate Facilities Strategy. This strategy looked at the skate facility needs of youth but also the broader population as it was clearly identified that a wide range of age groups in the City skate. The study identified that skaters want to be able to skate in public places and to be “seen” but that other residents, particularly older people and residents neighbouring formal and informal skate parks, did not want skaters in public spaces. The study also identified that many skaters are local, but others travel into the City from areas such as Sutherland to skate in the CBD and meet up with friends. Extensive onsite engagement was completed for this study including Drop In intercept surveys with skaters at Cook and Phillip, Martin Place and other CBD locations.
